Tropical peats have been neglected! Their environmental functions are recently recognized, particularly as carbon storage. By formation, the origin of tropical peats are from forests, which could be mangrove, kerangas dan freshwater forests.

Indonesia has approximately 16-20 million Ha of tropical peats, which are located in Borneo, Sumatra and Papua. It is estimated that 1.6 m Ha of tropical peats in the West Kalimantan Province. Photographs on these tropical peats could be downloaded at
